Why you need VPN on your computer

Your computer is your main work tool. If you work remotely, use international services, or simply want stable access to your usual resources — desktop VPN is a basic necessity.

You spend more time online on your computer than on your phone. Work chats in Slack or Telegram, video calls in Zoom or Google Meet, research, streaming — all of this requires a reliable connection. More about VPN for remote work.

VnePN on desktop protects all system traffic. Not just the browser, but every application: messengers, email clients, IDEs, corporate tools. This is a fundamental difference from browser extensions that only protect web pages. VnePN maintains a strict no-logs policy — your traffic stays yours. Starting at $2.50/month with no-registration signup, getting started is easy.

VPN for Windows

Windows is the most common desktop OS in Russia. To connect VnePN on Windows, we recommend the Hiddify client — it has a clean interface, supports VLESS+Reality, and runs stably on Windows 10 and 11.

Installation is simple: download Hiddify from the official website or GitHub, install it, paste your VnePN subscription link — done. The app auto-starts with Windows, VPN connects without your intervention.

v2rayTUN is also available for Windows and is an excellent alternative. Both clients are free and open-source — their code is public and community-reviewed.

Tip for work computers: if you use a corporate VPN, make sure it doesn't conflict with VnePN. Usually there's no issue since VLESS+Reality uses standard HTTPS ports.

VPN for macOS

On Mac, we recommend Hiddify or v2rayTUN — both are available for macOS and support VLESS+Reality. Hiddify is also available via Homebrew for those who prefer terminal installation.

Setup on Mac is identical to other platforms: download, install, paste subscription link. macOS will request permission to create a VPN configuration — confirm with Touch ID or admin password.

For MacBook users, energy efficiency is especially important. The VLESS+Reality protocol is very lightweight and barely affects battery life. The difference in battery time is under 5%, which is unnoticeable in daily use.

VPN for Linux

Linux users are typically a more technical audience, and there are several options. Hiddify is available for Linux (Ubuntu, Fedora, and other distributions). You can also use sing-box — a powerful CLI tool that many GUI clients are built on.

For Ubuntu and Debian-based distros, Hiddify provides a deb package. For Arch and others — AppImage or build from source. Process: install the client, paste VnePN subscription link, connect.

If you prefer CLI — sing-box with VnePN config gives full control over routing. It's a good option for servers and headless systems where GUI isn't needed.

Smart routing on desktop

Smart routing is especially useful on desktop. You work with Russian services (banking, government portals, corporate tools) and international ones (Google Workspace, Slack, Notion, GitHub) simultaneously. Everything should work at the same time, without toggling.

VnePN routes traffic to Russian resources directly, while international traffic goes through the VPN server. In practice: you open a tab with Sberbank — it works. Switch to Slack — it also works. No "turn off VPN" button needed.

For developers, this is particularly relevant. GitHub, npm, Docker Hub, Stack Overflow — all accessible through VPN. Meanwhile, corporate tools and Russian services continue working directly. More about VPN for Russia.

Step-by-step desktop VPN setup

The process is the same for all platforms:

  1. Go to vnepn.top and sign in with email + code
  2. Copy the subscription link
  3. Download Hiddify or v2rayTUN for your OS
  4. Install the application
  5. Paste the subscription link
  6. Click "Connect"

First 7 days free, no card needed. One subscription works on all your devices — Android, iPhone, and desktop all use the same link.

Tip: add the app to startup so VPN connects every time you turn on your computer.
